Washington Coach June Daugherty Post-Game Quotes
On general comments: "Well, there's no doubt we battled like warriors, I thought we played incredibly hard for forty minutes. I thought our defense disrupted a very accomplished Texas Tech team into taking less shots, turnovers, what have you. Its tough to lose the way we lost, down the stretch. I think the biggest thing that we gave up was the offensive boards in the second half. That was the straw that broke the camel's back, or whatever you want to say. It's disappointing because we thought we had them. We thought we had them down the stretch and a blocked shot here or there would have made a big difference, and I think if we would have had a bigger lead going down into the last two-point whatever it was on that one time out. But I'm proud of the way our kids responded. They played a great team today and I think we found out a lot of good things about the Huskies, even though we didn't come out with a victory."
On the good things we found out about the Huskies: "Defensively, we were able to pressure a team that has so many offensive weapons. I thought we were able to get into traps and a lot of rotations to the backside, forcing them to take shots that I don't think were characteristic of what we've seen on the Texas Tech tapes over the last couple of years. The other thing for us is that we were able to get into our running game a little bit, because of our defense, and if we just would have held steady on the boxing out in the second half, I think we could have had a different result in here. I think our younger people are going to take a lot of confidence from this game, because they went toe-to-toe. When you play a Jia Perkins, and Erin Grant, (Natalie) Ritchie, pick your poison, all of them are great players. And Perkins didn't do much the second half. She had a great first half, but I think we were able to disrupt her and maybe frustrate her a little bit and unfortunately I think their front line stepped up the second half and a lot of that was because of the offensive boards."
On the fast paced game: "We knew Tech loves to get up and down the floor, and we don't mind doing the same. One of our big keys coming into this game was we did not want to give up easy ones coming down in transition. Coach Sharp's going to run ten kids at you the entire game, and she wants it fast, and she wants it up-and-down the floor. That was a big area of concern and I don't think we grated it out too bad in that area. That was a huge concern with them being plus-forty on all their opponents coming into this game."
