Washington head coach June Daugherty
"Stanford is a great team, a tremendous team. They have so many weapons. I
commend them on their Pac-10 championship.
"We did a good job of not giving up the three and creating turnovers in the first half but obviously rebounding and the second half hurt us. We gave up easy shots, open shots. That made it tough.
"We run a lot of match-up zone. We ran more man than usual tonight. We tried to stay in our zone and get one or two people on whoever had the basketball. In the second half, Stanford moved the ball very well.
"In the first half we kept it close. We had the opportunity to come back in the second half if we had performed better.
"Nicole Powell had an unbelievable game. She played very hard. She has a passion. She was having fun out there. Unfortunately, we were on the wrong end of it.
"We can take a lot of positives from this. Our post players played well. They were a lot more aggressive.
"Right now, we know that our biggest game of the year is Saturday at 1 p.m. at California. We don't like the taste of what happened here tonight."
Junior guard Loree Payne
"In the second half they were on me a lot more, with more pressure. I didn't
get as many open looks. We played a great first half. The second half got
away from us."
Sophomore guard Giuliana Mendiola
"We were getting mixed up on our rotations. Obviously they are a good three
point shooting team. They were hitting them tonight. You have to play a
great game against the No. 2 team in the country. We played a good first
half. The second half go away from us. We have to move on though. I hate
losing and it's hard to move on. We have to look at Cal now.
(on Nicole Powell) "We play a lot of match-up zone, so everyone gets their share of her. She is so versatile. She can play guard, post. She's an incredible player. That definitely showed tonight.
"We still have confidence. Today was disappointing. We had confidence coming in. We still have a lot of the season left, so we need to maintain that.
