Seattle - Christine Sinclair converted a direct shot in the 53rd minute to lead No. 3 Portland to a 1-0 non-conference victory over the 14th-ranked Washington women's soccer team in front of 1,561 fans at Husky Soccer Field Saturday night.
The Huskies suffers just their second loss of the season, falling to 4-2-1, while the Pilots improve to 6-1-0. Portland improves its all-time series record against Washington to 12-1-1.
Sinclair broke open a scoreless game when she charged toward the goal from near midfield and put a direct shot to the center of the net from 25 yards out at 53:50 into the match. The Pilots led the tally in shots, with 18, to Washington's nine attempts. Husky goalkeeper Hope Solo tallied 10 saves in the game.
Washington is on the road for its next game, on Oct. 5 at Montana. The Pilots return home for a Sept. 30 game against Washington State.
