Post Game Quotes Washington vs. Northeastern November 23, 2001
Washington head coach June Daugherty
General Remarks: "We dominated and out rebounded Northeastern tonight. We felt we've been playing hard in practice but we need to play hard during the game and for almost 40 minutes we were able to tonight. That is what we are looking for."
On Freshman Players: "I am really excited for them tonight. I forget that it's easier to play on the road than it is at home, because everybody is there. The entire Snohomish County was there tonight and I am sure that's how they felt. Kristen O'Neill received some very valuable time at point guard tonight against a very quick defender. Kristen had a little bit of trouble in the first half with her defender angling her off but she made some nice adjustments. I really liked how Kristen got on the glass for us and started posting up the smaller opponent. She showed a lot of aggressiveness and we hadn't seen that from her up to this point. Kristen was into the flow a lot better tonight. Kayla Burt had an outstanding first half, she came out very aggressive offensively and took advantage of the shots that were open. Kirsten Brockman, we expect her to come in on the weak side and swoop down and grab anything and take three people with her and that's what she did. I felt her screening was better tonight and defensively Northeastern definitely felt her presence."
WASHINGTON PLAYERS
ANDREA LALUM (On playing with Giuliana Mendiola): "Me and Giuli just click very well. I am very thankful for her and for our point guards because they see us inside so well and they recognize where we are at all times. Our point guards have great vision. She (Mendiola) sees the whole court even when she is diving for rebounds or going behind her back, she still sees us wide open."
EMILY AUTREY (On switching positions): "It took a while to get used to going between the 3 and the 4 but I feel pretty good right now. I just need to work on a few things, like rebounding. But I'll get there and it has been a lot of fun playing on the inside."
GIULIANA MENDIOLA (On what worked in the game): "Today I was just clicking really well with my teammates. Our team is very focused right now. We had a tough shoot-around today. We were pretty focused for the whole hour of the shoot-around and it definitely carried over into the game. We focused really hard on defense and rebounding and I think you could see that in the game."
