Volleyball Falls To 18th-Ranked Texas A&M At The Longhorn Classic

SEATTLE - Texas A&M's Heather Marshall had 13 kills and 15 digs as the Aggies defeated the University of Washington, 15-13, 15-10, 15-4, Friday in day one volleyball action at the Longhorn Classic in Austin, Texas. The Huskies fell to 3-2 overall, while the Aggies improved to 3-2.
Husky senior opposite Emily Seacat (Ridgefield, Wash.) had a team-high 13 kills on .303 hitting, while posting her fifth straight match with at least 10 kills to her credit. Sophomore Paige Benjamin (Redmond, Wash.) and junior Allison Richardson (Hemet, Calif.) both added seven kills, while sophomore Gretchen Maurer (San Clemente, Calif.) had 24 assists and nine digs.
In the first game, the Huskies led early, recording three, four-point leads at 5-1, 9-5 and 12-8, but the Aggies rallied to tie the game at 12-12 on a Benjamin hitting error. Texas A&M then took the lead at 13-12 on a kill by Erin Gibson, but the Huskies equalized at 13-13 on a block by Benjamin and Richardson. After a Brandi Mount kill for a sideout, the Aggies won the game, scoring the final two points on a bad set and an attack error, 15-13.
Following the close game one, Texas A&M endured five ties to take game two 15-10 and then hit .407 to win the match with a 15-4 game three win.
The Huskies continue the Longhorn Classic with a Saturday match against host 23rd-ranked Texas at 7 p.m. CDT.
