AUSTIN, Texas - Washington used a three-run homer by redshirt freshman Jenny Topping, and senior Jennifer Spediacci (5-1) tied her career record for strikeouts in a game with 12 to down No. 19 Texas Saturday at the Texas Invitational. The second-ranked Huskies and Longhorns will tangle again today at 5 p.m. in the semifinals. The third-place game will be Sunday at 10 a.m., with the championship game slated for 12:30 p.m.
Juniors Kelly Hauxhurst and Kim DePaul doubled and walked, respectively, in the first inning setting up Topping's shot to right field, her fourth of the season. The Huskies got a run in the fourth, when Spediacci put her first ball of the season out of the park. Then in the sixth inning, junior Christie Rosenblad singled and senior Erin Helgeland made it to second on an error before senior Rosie Leutzinger's sacrifice fly helped Rosenblad score from third.
