Husky head coach June Daugherty
I'm really proud of our defense today. We got our hands up on the shooters
and made Michigan force things. They are a very good drive and finish
team. Our goal was to not allow them to continue to have
penetration. Defensively, our zone was very effective. Our team played
physical and controlled the glass. We feel good about our bench this
year. We wanted to wear Michigan down andwe did that today.
We were disappointed with the way things turned out at Indiana Friday night. But we also know we should not have been in that situation in the first place, where the game was going to be decided by the officials. Our players took that personally. They learned a great lesson and came out strong today. It showed great leadership by our seniors, that everyone understood what we needed to do here.
Sophomore forward Emily Autrey
We knew what we had to do today. We knew we had to play 40 minutes of
tough defense and good offense. We followed our game plan and came out
with the win. We had to bear down and do what we do best, play tough
defense.
QUOTES
Michigan head coach Sue Guevara
(on the game overall *) "Everything we did in the win on Friday -- playing
defense, getting loose balls, consistently knocking down free throws -- we did
not do today. We completely broke down defensively as a team, whether we were in
man or zone defense."
(on the play of Washington *) "They played very well and they did a good job shooting the ball from the perimeter. They had five kids on the floor that were capable of scoring from anywhere on the court and we did not do a good job of contesting their looks in the half court."
Michigan guard Alayne Ingram
(on bouncing back from this loss *) "You have to have a mindset that you are
going to come out and attack. We did not do that today and we really hurt
ourselves. We need to comeback tomorrow at practice and get back to work."
NOTES
