#7 UCLA Downs Washington Volleyball In Three Games

SEATTLE - Kristee Porter had 19 kills and 22 digs to lead the #7 UCLA Bruins past the Washington Huskies, 15-6, 15-6, 15-8, Friday in Pac-10 volleyball action at the Hec Edmundson Pavilion Addition. With the loss, the UW fell to 7-18 overall and 2-15 in the Pac-10, while UCLA improved to 20-7 overall and 14-4 in conference play.
The Huskies received several notable efforts on the night with junior Allison Richardson (Hemet, Calif.) tallying a game-high 17 kills on .464 hitting. UW senior opposite Emily Seacat (Ridgefield, Wash.) was the second player to hit over .400, recording 11 kills on .409 hitting with a season-high four blocks.
In game one, the Huskies erased an early three-point deficit to tie the score at 3-3, but the Bruins quickly ran off 11 unanswered points to get their first game-point at 14-3. Washington managed to hold off eight game points and climbed to within eight at 6-14. On the eighth game point, the Bruins finally converted following a Husky blocking error to end the game at 15-6.
The opening of the second game saw the Huskies run off three quick points on a kill from sophomore Paige Benjamin (Redmond, Wash.), a Bruin hitting error and a kill off an overpass from junior Lisa Underhill (Vista, Calif.). Any UW lead was short-lived as the Huskies stalled at three, while the Bruins pushed ahead to take the lead at 6-3. The Huskies finally got their fourth point on a tip from setter Britni Churnside (Eugene, Ore.), but the Bruins once again added to their lead, winning 15-6.
The final game proved to be much the same story as the Bruins took the early lead at 11-5. Out of substitutions, the Huskies went on a run of their own, scoring three unanswered points to come within four at 8-12. A UW hitting error broke the string, as the Bruins would need only a kill from both Porter and senior Elizabeth Bachman to win the match with a 15-8 game-three victory.
Besides Porter's 19 kills, four other UCLA players reached double-digit kills as the Bruins posted a phenomenal .417 hitting percentage.
The Huskies play host to their last Pac-10 match of the season Saturday, Nov. 18, versus the third-ranked USC Trojans at 7 p.m.
