PORTLAND, Ore. - The No. 11 Washington men's soccer team downed Marquette, 1-0, for a sweep in the adidas Portland Invitational over Labor Day Weekend. Portland, who also went 2-0, won the tournament because of goal differential.
Although dominating play for most of the match against Marquette, the Huskies (2-0-1) found the back of the net just once. Crisp passing by sophomores Benjamin Somoza and Billy Sleeth gave senior Wes Hart the ball in front of the net, where he banged the cross off the lower left post and into the goal.
UW outshot the Eagles 12-6 and had a 9-1 corner-kick advantage. Hart and Ritchie were named the Most Outstanding Offensive and Defensive players, respectively, in the game.
