Cal Stops Husky Volleyballers

SEATTLE - The Washington volleyball team, which had won seven in a row over California, lost 3-1 to the Golden Bears Friday night at the Pavilion Addition, losing leads in all three games that it lost. Game scores were 17-15, 15-9, 13-15, 15-10.
The Huskies fell to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the Pac-10 while California improved to 4-2 and 1-0.
Washington held significant leads in all four games. In the first, the Huskies served for the game at 14-8, but Cal scored seven unanswered points to eventually take a lead before winning the game.
The Huskies were led 20 kills from sophomore Lisa Underhill, a career high for her. Allison Richardson contributed 16 kills and Kristina Laffling had 13.
California was led by 20 kills, 17 digs and four service aces from Brook Coulter, who led the Pac-10 in aces last year. Both Leah Young and Laurel Kokaska had 12 kills.
The Huskies' next action is Friday, Sept. 24 at Oregon followed by a Saturday match at Oregon State.
