Women's Soccer Team Drops 3-1 Decision at Cal in Regular-Season Finale

BERKELEY, Calif. - Reserves Regina Holan and Brittany Kirk both scored goals on Sunday, leading the California women's soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Washington at Goldman Field in the final regular-season game for both teams.
The defeat snapped Washington's six-game unbeaten streak. The Huskies completed the 1999 campaign with an 8-8-2 record, including a 5-2-2 Pacific-10 Conference mark. California improved to 13-6 with a 6-3 conference record.
Junior Katey Ward scored the only Washington goal, cutting the Golden Bear lead to 2-1 six minutes into the second half. A product of Tacoma's Bellarmine Prep High School, Ward headed in a corner kick from junior Theresa Wagner at 50:22.
California responded with an insurance goal just over one minute later as Kirk collected a rebound from a Kyla Sabo shot and fired it into the net at 51:47.
Stacey Mallison opened he scoring at 5:02 on a 14-yard blast. Holan put the Golden Bears ahead 2-0 with a 6-yard scoring strike at 39:58.
Junior goalkeeper Leslie Weeks registered two saves for the Huskies. Maite Zabala had five saves for California which outshot Washington by a slim 11-10 margin.
