
Women's Cross Country Team Finishes 13th At NCAAs

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Brigham Young used great depth to win their second national championship in three years Monday during the 1999 NCAA women's cross country meet at the University of Indiana. The second-ranked Cougars pulled away from the pack, finishing with an outstanding score of 72 despite having no runners finish in the top ten.
BYU was followed by No. 3 Arkansas which tallied 125 points to edge No. 1 Stanford (127) for second place. No. 7 Washington, who placed ninth in the 1998 meet, competed at nationals for the fifth time in six years finishing 13th with a score of 403. The Huskies were paced by the 78th-place performance of junior Jen Schindler (17:52) and a 97th-place outing by Anna Aoki (18:01).
Wisconsin sophomore Erica Palmer raced to a narrow victory for the individual championship, completing the 5,000-meter course in 16-minutes, 40-seconds. Arkansas teammates Amy Yoder (16:45) and Larissa Kleinman (16:49) finished second and third, respectively. Brigham young had all five runners finish in the top 26 led by Elizabeth Jackson's 11th-place time of 17:00.
