A former All-American in the hammer throw at Georgia Tech, Kimery Hern is in her first season as a volunteer assistant coach for the Huskies. A Washington native and South Whidbey High graduate, Hern was a three-time NCAA Outdoor Championship competitor in the hammer throw, and set the Georgia Tech school record with a toss of 197-feet, 11-inches.
Hern will work with Husky throws coach Reedus Thurmond. In addition to her hammer prowess, Hern was also an NCAA Regional qualifier in the discus with a PR of 158-2. As a sophomore, she placed ninth in the hammer throw at NCAAs to earn All-America honors. She was a multiple-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference selection.
As a prep, Hern won the 2005 Washington State 2A title in the hammer throw with a meet record toss, and also won a discus state title as a junior.
