Alan Meininghaus, a Washington Oarsman from 2008-2012, joins Head Coach Michael Callahan’s staff as the Intern Assistant Coach. Alan will be working with 1st Assistant & Recruiting Coordinator Matt Rung for the 2014-2015 season. This is Alan’s first season coaching with the Huskies. Before coaching at Washington, Alan coached for Pittsburgh Central Catholic Crew and Oakland Catholic Rowing.
In the time, Alan was a coach with both of these programs; the teams saw heightened success at the Scholastic level, as well as, the National level. In his first year working with the Varsity and 2nd Varsity Crews of Pittsburgh Central Catholic, the crews placed 1st and 2nd respectively at the Scholastic Rowing Association Nationals. Pittsburgh Central Catholic then went on to a 5th place finish at the 2013 Youth National Championships. During Alan’s second season with Pittsburgh Central Catholic, the team saw more improvement on the National level placing 4th at the 2014 Youth National Championships. While Alan was a coach with Oakland Catholic, they too saw improved success qualifying two boats for the 2014 Scholastic Rowing Association Nationals. To add, Oakland Catholic Rowing saw an all-around stronger and deeper squad then in years past during the 2013-2014 season.
Alan started his rowing career in high school at North Allegheny located in Wexford Pennsylvania. Alan was a four-year letter winner on the North Allegheny Rowing Team. He won a Gold Medal in the Men’s U16 Double, as well as, a Bronze Medal in the Men’s U16 Quad at the US Rowing Club Nationals in 2005. In 2006, Alan won a Bronze Medal at the US Rowing Club Nationals in the Men’s U18 Quad. In 2007, Alan won a Bronze Medal at The Stotesbury Cup Regatta in the Men’s Junior Quad. In 2008, Alan won a Gold Medal at Midwest Championships in the Varsity Quad, and Finished 6th in the Grand Finals at the US Rowing Youth Nationals in Men’s Quad.
As a student athlete at the University of Washington competing for the Men’s Rowing Program, Alan won two Gold Medals at the IRA National Championships. Rowing in the Men’s Open 4+ in 2009, and Men’s 2nd Varsity 8+ in 2012, helping the Huskies to their first ever sweep of all five events at the IRA and 6th consecutive Ten Eyck Trophy in 2012. Alan also won a Gold Medal at the Pac-12 Championship in the Men’s 2nd Varsity 8+ in 2012. After graduating from the University of Washington, Alan competed in the Alumni 8+ that traveled to China to compete in the Famous International Universities Regatta, where the Huskies won every event.
Alan earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Washington. After graduating from Washington, Alan went on to earn a Master’s of Science degree in Sports Management with the concentration in Intercollegiate Athletic Administration from California University of Pennsylvania.
