Michael Switzer heads into his second season as Washington's offensive line coach, and third season overall, in 2026. After one year as a senior offensive analyst in 2024, Switzer was promoted to offensive line coach.
Switzer's first season as the Huskies' o-line coach was highly successful, as the UW offense made improvements in a number of key areas. In 2025, Washington ranked No. 7 in red-zone offense (.926), a vast improvement over its ranking in that same category in 2024 (104th). The Huskies also made a significant improvement in scoring offense, going from 104th in the FBS in 2024, to No. 17 (34.1 points per game) in 2025. UW was also No. 10 in third-down conversions (.506), No. 9 in completion percentage (.689), and No. 10 in team passing efficiency (159.93).
Washington's offensive linemen also earned individual honors as senior left tackle Carver Willis was picked up All-Big Ten honorable mention and finished the year with a trip to the Senior Bowl. Left guard John Mills, a true freshman, was a unanimous Freshman All-America selection after starting 11 of 13 games in 2025.
In his first year on Montlake, Switzer helped coach a unit made up of five new starters, including four regulars who were entirely new to the program. The 2024 Husky team kept its home winning streak in tact, increasing it to 20 games, and earned a berth in the 2024 Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl.
Switzer came to UW from Arizona, along with head coach Jedd Fisch, having spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons in Tucson. In his final season, the Wildcats went 10-3 and capped the year with a win over Oklahoma in the Alamo Bowl.
From 2018 through 2021, Switzer was the offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Indiana State. In his first season (2018), the Sycamores finished the year ranked No. 14 in the nation in rushing offense (241.5 yards per game). Indiana State rushed for 2,656 yards in 2018, more than doubling the 2017 total (1,185 yards).
In 2018, three Indiana State linemen earned some level of Missouri Valley all-conference, while Ja’Quan Keys was a first-team All-MVFC selection at running back, despite missing four games due to injury.
In 2019, Switzer coached four All-MVFC selections as two wide receivers, a center and an all-purpose player were also honored.
Prior to his time in Terre Haute, Switzer was offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at John Carroll in 2017, mentoring first-team All-Ohio Valley Conference lineman Drew Turner and second-team running back Ro Golphin.
Before heading to John Carroll, Switzer worked three seasons at Michigan, first as a graduate assistant and then as a offensive analyst. In 2013, he was an offensive grad assistant at Eastern Michigan.
A four-year letterman and starter at Ball State (2007-10), Switzer spent time as an offensive lineman with the Buffalo Bills during the 2011 season. At Ball State, he started all 51 games of his career, and was a key member of a line that helped the Cardinals tally 5,972 yards of total offense in 2008, when Ball State went 12-1 under head coach Brady Hoke.
Switzer, who attended Lawrence North High in Indianapolis, earned a bachelor’s degree in general studies from Ball State.
