Kathy Thompson spent four years as Associate Head Athletic trainer at the University of Washington and nine seasons with the gymnastics team. Besides gymnastics, she worked with the women's golf team and the cheer squad while being the UW liaison to NATA and the CPR/AED education and training supervisor.
Prior to her most recent position, Thompson was the assistant athletic trainer at UW from 2001-2008 where she worked with men's soccer, softball, gymnastics, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's cross country.
From 2000-01, Thompson was the Director of Athletic Training/Sports Medicine at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. She supervised the sports medicine club and was the athletic trainer at Kirksville High School along with being the trainer at the Missouri State High School Wrestling Championships.
She was the Coordinator of Athletic Training/Sports Medicine for the Northeast Regional Health System from 1997-2000 where she was the athletic trainer at KHS and for the Missouri State High School Championships for wrestling and track and field. She was also the Director of Medical Service at the Gus Macker 3-on-3 basketball tournament.
Her first full-time job she held from 1989-97 as an assistant athletic trainer at the University of Illinois. She worked with volleyball, men's and women's track and country, gymnastics and spring football, along with supervising the student trainers and the auxiliary stadium training room.
Thompson has also worked with the Austrian Olympic Track and field Federation, Grand Prix and the University of Illinois Wheelchair Track and Field Classic.
She began her athletic training career in 1982 as a student athletic trainer at Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State), working with nearly every sports team there in her five years. After getting her degree in health and exercise science, she moved to the University of Nebraska for graduate school, where she was a graduate assistant athletic trainer, working with men's and women's track and cross country, volleyball, men's and women's swimming and diving and women's basketball. She also worked at the Nebraska State High School Championships for wrestling, gymnastics, basketball, volleyball and rodeo.
Thompson was a National Athletic Trainer's Association (NATA) committee member from 2003-2009 and on the committee for the Most Distinguished Athletic Trainer Award. She is certified by the National Athletic Trainers Association, a licensed athletic trainer in three states and a licensed X-Ray technician in Washington.
Teaching has also been a part of Thompson's career as s he has taught various kinesiology classes at Illinois, CPR classes and a sports Medicine class at UW. She has attended 27 district and national NATA conventions along with several other meetings in various states.
She is originally from St. Louis, Mo., and now resides in Mukilteo, Wash., with her husband, Clint.
