Matt Weaver joined the UW coaching staff ahead of the 2019-20 school year and returns for his second season in 2020-21.
Weaver, a lightweight rower at the University of Pennsylvania as an underclassman, comes to Seattle with a wide array of coaching experience over a relatively short time since graduation.
Last year, he was an assistant coach with the lightweight program at his alma mater, where he helped the varsity eight to an EARC championship and a bronze medal at IRAs, where the Quakers finished second in the overall team points ranking.
In the summer of 2019, he was also an assistant coach. with the USRowing Olympic Development Program, working with boys in the mid-Atlantic region.
For the 2017-18 school year, Weaver was an assistant coach at La Salle University in Philadelphia, coaching the freshmen. He was also a sculling coach at Crescent Boat Club in Philadelphia, and in 2016-17, worked as a coach at Winchester University in England.
Weaver, who was the Penn lightweights team captain in 2015-16 and an IRA All-Academic selection, earned a degree in criminology in 2016, graduating cum laude. In January of 2019, he graduated summa cum laude with a master's degree in education from La Salle.
