Nick Brautigam joins the 2022 Washington football staff as a defensive quality control coach.
Brautigam comes to Seattle from Montana Tech, where he spent the last three years as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. He first joined the Orediggers' staff in 2019, when he was hired by then-head coach (and current UW co-defensive coordinator) Chuck Morrell.
In 2021, two members of the Montana Tech defense earned first-team All-Frontier Conference, while linebacker Bridger Johnson made the second team.
Brautigam joined the Montana Tech staff after one year as an assistant at NCAA Division III Loras College (Iowa), where he was special teams and secondary coach in 2018.
The Dubuque, Iowa, native graduated from Cornell College in 2013 with degrees in kinesiology and exercise management. While at Cornell, Brautigam played football for the Rams, earning first-team All-Midwest Conference at safety in 2013, when he was a finalist for Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and ranked second in school history for forced fumbles.
In 2014, Brautigam began his coaching career as an intern at Northern Illinois, working with defense and special teams. The following season, he moved into a graduate assistant position at NIU, coaching defensive backs and linebackers. He also earned his master's degree, in science and education, from NIU.
In 2017, Brautigam landed a defensive assistant position at Western Illinois. In his one season with the Fighting Leathernecks, he was a part of program that went 8-4 and earned an FCS playoff berth.
Brautigam and his wife Kylea are parents of two sons.
