Sports Medicine Graduate Externship
|
|
INFORMATION |
Our externship is designed for students actively enrolled in an athletic training program at a different institution that need either an external placement as part of their curriculum, or are seeking exposure to a different university on their own. Placements can range anywhere from 4 weeks to an academic year, and are program dependent.
Sport assignments can be with any of our NCAA Division I athletic programs at the University of Washington. Sport assignments are primarily based the exposure or educational needs of the applicant, followed by staffing needs for our sports. When an extern is given a sport assignment, our goal is to have that student be fully immersive and operate as an extension of our staff athletic trainer who is responsible for that sport- present for all activities the team has, assisting in the training room, and having a hand in injury prevention, evaluation, and rehab progressions at all phases under the guidance of their preceptor.
It is our goal that when an extern leaves our university, they walk away with tangible skills, increased clinical knowledge, a broader professional network, and an insider’s view to the expectations and demands of high level, Division I sports.
If you are interested in this opportunity, please email the following application to Jaqulyn Carrell (jcarre14@uw.edu) by March 15th.
