Already with All-Pac-12 and All-region honors under her belt, Trysten Melhart is in the midst of her third season hitting over .300 and just one hit away from 150 in her career. She has played in over 200 games for the Huskies, serving as a rock in rightfield and embracing a role off the bench when necessary. On the basepaths, Melhart has been caught just three times while racking up 39 steals in her career. The Snohomish native has twice been named to the Pac-12's All-Academic team as well.
What are some of your favorite memories at UW?
One of my all-time favorite memories at UW was making it to the World Series and competing in Oklahoma. The moment we made it to the World Series I felt a happiness that I am positive I will only experience a few times in my life! A couple other memories that I hold close to my heart are all of our fall trips. We always go to unique places with houses filled with fun stuff to do. We get a little crazy but that's how you tend to make the best memories. Even outside of softball specific moments, I have made so many memories with my teammates that I will cherish for the rest of my life.
How have you grown while at UW?
Through my time at UW I have grown in such a positive way. Coming into this program I knew I would grow as an athlete but didn't realize how much I would grow as a person. The coaching staff really helps you develop your life skills and instills you with key values. My time at UW has allowed me to figure out who I am and what truly matters in life.
Do you have any message for the coaching staff and team?
Thank you for being my family and helping me grow as a person and a player. I am so blessed to have experienced four years with people that I consider my sisters and best friends. I will always be a phone call (or a 30-minute drive) away if any of you ever need anything. I won't remember the games we won or records we held but I will definitely remember the relationships we have built. I love you all so much and don't know what I am going to do without seeing your faces every single day.
What are your plans after graduating?
After graduation, I plan to complete a Master's in Teaching and then become an elementary school teacher!
