SEATTLE - The Huskies return home for their final six home games of the season, starting this weekend with the final non-conference series of the year. Washington (26-22, 77 RPI) plays host to CSUN (29-22, 76 RPI) out of the Big West Conference Friday through Sunday (times 5:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m., respectively).
The Huskies were 14-7 on the road this year and are just 11-12 at home.
The games will not be televised this weekend, but all three will be available online at: http://pac-12.com/videos/university-washington-2 with Gary Hill, Jr. and Steve Sandmeyer calling the action, and live scoring will be hosted on UW.Statbroadcast.com.
SERIES HISTORY VS. CSUN
Washington is 16-5 all-time vs. CSUN (formerly known as Cal State Northridge), including a perfect 9-0 at home. The Matadors won the last time the teams met, 8-7, in 2013 in Northridge, but the Huskies have won 11 of the previous 12 games dating back to 2003. The teams have not played in Seattle since 2007, when the Huskies swept a three-game series. CSUN coach Greg Moore was pitching coach at Washington for one season in 2009 and his assistant Jordan Twohig was an assistant at Washington for three years (2011-13). Coach Lindsay Meggs is 1-1 vs. CSUN as the Huskies coach, with the lone win occuring Feb. 27, 2012 at CSUN (18-6).
PLAY 4MOM
UW junior outfielder Braden Bishop has been paying homage to his mom Suzy’s battle against early-onset Alzheimer’s disease by writing 4MOM on his wrist and on his shoes all season long. Last week, after reaching out to Arizona’s Scott Kingery, who Bishop played summer baseball with in the Cape Cod League, both teams paid homage to their moms in their own way on Mother’s Day by writing 4MOM on their wrists and equipment. Before the season, Bishop held a fundraiser to help in the research of Alzheimer’s and continues to try to raise awareness of the disease with his 4MOM campaign. Twitter: @4MOM_ALZ
THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT UW:
• Davis’ Records: Senior Tyler Davis passed Tim Lincecum last week for most innings pitched in a UW career. Davis has thrown 344.2 innings, passing the previous record of 342 by Lincecum. This season he has thrown 98.2 innings and is poised to become just the second Husky to go over 100 innings twice in his career (Linceum, 3 times, 2004-06). He also picked up his 22nd career win last week to move into a tie with three others for 4th all-time. His next start will be the 49th of his career, tying Jeff Carlsen (1998-01) for 2nd most in UW history. Complete lists on Page 5 of notes.
• Power Surge: After spending most of the year near the bottom of the Conference in home runs, the Huskies are tied for 2nd in the Pac-12 with 30. UW hit 16 in April, including three games with three. Austin Rei has been a big reason the Huskies have climbed up the HR charts as he has hit five in just 12 Pac-12 games and ranks 3rd amongst all players in Conference-only action.
• Getting Defensive: The Huskies enter the weekend leading the Pac-12 in team fielding, with a percentage of .977 and Pac-12 low 44 errors. Individually, Branden Berry is 2nd with 485 chances and 455 putouts. Levi Jordan leads all starting middle infielders with a fielding percentage of .990, committing two errors in 195 chances. Joey Morgan is statistically the second hardest catcher in the nation to steal against, throwing out 17 would-be stealers in 32 chances (.531).
• Oh So Close: Of the Huskies 16 Pac-12 losses, 10 are by one-run and 3 are by two runs. The Huskies are 4-10 in one-run games and had lost 10 straight in Pac-12 play until last Sunday’s 3-2 win on Sunday at Arizona.
TRENDING HUSKIES
• Brandon Choate has made 31 appearances this season, tied for 3rd most in UW single-season history and 2 shy of tying the record held by Zach Wright (2013).
• Austin Rei has reached base in all 19 games he has played this season. He is hitting .354 (19x54) with 5 HR, 14 RBI in the 14 games since returning to action after missing 29 due to injury.
• The trio of Spencer Jones (54.2), Brandon Choate (49.2) and Troy Rallings (48.0) has accounted for 152.1 innings of the bullpen’s total of 191.0, or about 80%. In 16 April games, the trio threw all but 2.0 innings of the bullpen’s total of 61.0 during the month.
• Alex Schmidt has hit .373 (31x83) since April 1 to raise his average from .207 to .291.
• Troy Rallings has saved each of UW’s last 3 wins and has 13 saves overall in his career -- a total that is tied for 6th most in UW history.
• Branden Berry is tied for 5th in the Conference with 7 HR and T12th with 35 RBI.
