Eight Huskies Receive All-Pac-12 Honors

SEATTLE – The Huskies had eight different players receive All-Pac-12 honors this season, as announced by the Pac-12 Conference today.
Ali Aguilar and Kylee Lahners were named to the First Team, Courtney Gano was named to the Second Team and Casey Stangel, Kelli Suguro and Taylor Van Zee made the Honorable Mention list. Lahners and Suguro were also named to the Honorable Mention All-Defensive team.
Van Zee was also named to the All-Freshman Team while Krystal Aubert and Trysten Melhart made the Honorable Mention list.
Aguilar, a sophomore shortstop from Orangevale, Calif., leads the Huskies offensively with a .425 average (77-for-181) including 23 doubles, one triple, 16 home runs and 58 RBI. She is currently second in the nation with 23 doubles, four shy of the Husky individual season record held by Sara Pickering (27 in 1997). She has posted 25 multi-hit and 19 multi-RBI games this season. Aguilar leads the team and the Pac-12 in runs (63), doubles (23) and total bases (150). This is Aguilar’s second All-Pac-12 honor.
Lahners, who has put up impressive numbers throughout her career, has surpassed career highs in hits (60), doubles (12), triples (1) and walks (54) in her senior season. Batting .390 (60-for-154) for second-best on the team, Lahners has reached base in 50 of 54 games this season and her .558 on-base percentage leads the Pac-12. She moved into No. 4 all-time in the Husky record book with 127 career walks and her .98 walks per game ranks fifth nationally. For Lahners, this is her fourth All-Pac-12 honor.
Gano, a junior from West Covina, Calif. batted .339 during the regular season with five doubles, one triple and a team-leading 18 home runs and 59 RBI. Her 18 home runs is tied for sixth in the Husky record book for most home runs in a season. She has recorded a career high four RBI in five games and has had 19 multi-RBI games this season.
Stangel, a sophomore from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, batted .341 during the regular season, racking in 46 RBI. Stangel has had 12 multi-hit and 16 multi-RBI games. She recorded a season-high five RBI on three hits against Oregon State (May 4).
Suguro, a senior second baseman from Kent, Wash., batted .370 in the regular season and surpassed career highs in hits (57), RBI (31), runs (35) and home runs (5). Suguro, who has had 15 multi-hit and seven multi-RBI games, has recorded a career best three hits in four games this season. She boasted a career-high 15-game hitting streak, tallying 24 hits, nine RBI, three doubles and two home runs earlier this season. This is Suguro’s third All-Pac-12 honor.
Van Zee, a freshman from Hemet, Calif., has appeared in 54 games, starting 53, primarily in left field. Batting .363 with 47 RBI this season, she was named as a Top 25 finalists for the NFCA Freshman of the Year Award. After going 8-for-14, batting .571 with 4 RBI and a team-leading eight hits, Van Zee was named the Bank of Hawaii Invitational MVP. The freshman has had 16 multi-hit and 16 multi-RBI games. She started her freshman season on a seven-game hitting streak with 10 hits, six RBI, three doubles, one triple and one home run.
Aubert, a freshman from Orangevale, Calif., has appeared in 45 games, starting 29, primarily in right field. She earned Pac-12 Freshman of the Week honors after leading the offense with a .833 batting average and 10 RBI, recording five hits and three home runs including her first career grand slam in the series against Stanford.
Melhart, a freshman from Snohomish, Wash., has appeared in 46 games, starting 24. She is currently batting .377 with 29 hits and 11 RBI. Earlier this season, she boasted a six-game hitting streak with two RBI and one stolen base.
Washington opens post-season play on Friday, May 15, against USC Upstate at the Tuscaloosa Regional hosted by No. 6 overall seed Alabama. The game will air live on ESPNU with Cara Capuano and Leah Amico calling the action.
