UW Men's Basketball Preview: v. Stanford (P12 First Round)

UW heads to Las Veags to face sixth-seeded Stanford on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. on the Pac-12 Networks.
The Game
The Huskies (16-14, 5-13 Pac-12) earned the 11 seed for this year’s Pac-12 Tournament and will face sixth-seeded Stanford on Wednesday, March 11 at 8:30 p.m. at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. The game will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks with Ted Robinson, Bill Walton and Lewis Johnson (sideline) on the call. Additionally, for the Washington IMG Radio Network, fans can tune in at 8 p.m. to hear Bob Rondeau and Jason Hamilton on KOMO 1000AM and FM 97.7.
The Coach
Head Coach Lorenzo Romar, in his 13th year at Washington, has amassed a 269-158 (.630) during his time in Seattle and an overall mark of 362-246 (.595) in 19 seasons. Romar has taken the Huskies to the NCAA tournament six times including three Sweet 16 appearances.
Quick Hitters
• This is the first time the Huskies will enter the Pac-12 Tournament as the No. 11 seed and the sixth time they will face Stanford (UW owns a 4-1 record in the previous five meetings)
• Junior Andrew Andrews was one of three Pac-12 players to post double-digit scoring in at least 17 of their 18 league games this season joining Joseph Young of Oregon (2015 Pac-12 Player of the Year) and Chasson Randle of Stanford (2015 All-Pac-12 First Team)
• Junior Andrew Andrews is the first player at UW to post 10-straight 14+scoring efforts in Pac-12 play since Brandon Roy did so in 2006
• The Huskies are 0-2 against Stanford this season falling in overtime 60-68 on Jan. 4 in California and 74-84 on Jan. 28 in Seattle ... Shawn Kemp, Jr., averaged 15.5 points in those two contests while shooting 76.5 percent from the field (13-17)
• With their 77-68 win over No. 13 Utah, the Huskies picked up their third win over a top-15 opponent this season (#13 SDSU, #15 Oklahoma) ... it’s the fifth season that a Lorenzo Romar team has posted three or more wins over top-15 opponents (2008-09, 2006-07, 2005-06, 2004-05)
• Junior Jernard Jarreau knocked down a career-high 3 from 3-point range against the Utes after entering the game having made just two from long distance in his whole career.
• Sophomore Nigel Williams-Goss continued to rack up the accolades for this season as he was named second team All-Pac 12 for his second conference honor after earning a spot on the All-Freshman team a year ago
• Sophomore Nigel Williams-Goss was named to the Capitol One Academic All-America Third Team becoming the first academic all-american in program history ... NWG boasts a 3.74 GPA in pre-social science and is set to double major in communications and psychology
• The Huskies have used five different starting lineups in the last six games
• The Huskies are averaging 9.0 made three-pointers over the last four games, up from their season average of 6.0 per game
• UW has posted fewer turnovers than its opponents in four of the last six games, with seven against ASU, three at WSU, 10 at UCLA and 10 vs. #13 Utah ... UW has forced its opponents into more turnovers 13 times this season
• Junior Andrew Andrews became the 38th player in UW history to reach 1,000 career points after posting a career-best 35 points at WSU (Feb. 22)... Andrews now has 1,078 points in his three seasons at UW, which ranks 31st all-time at UW
• Andrews is averaging 20.7 points and 4.7 rebounds over the last seven games ... Andrews finished the 2013-14 regular season averaging 17.2 points and 6.5 rebounds over the final six games ... additionally, he’s averaging 21.6 over the last five games
• The Huskies were the only team in the Pac-12 to have two players finish conference play averaging over 16 points (NWG - 17.0; AA - 16.6) ... the last time UW had two players average over 16 points was in 2011-12 (Terrence Ross - 16.4; Tony Wroten - 16.0)
