Men's Tennis Hits the Road to Face Minnesota and Drake

ABOUT THIS WEEKEND’S MATCHES: The No. 54 Washington men’s tennis team heads to Minneapolis, Minnesota this weekend for a quick two match road stint against two top-50 ranked teams. Washington will face No. 34 Minnesota on Friday, March 6 at 4:00 p.m. PT followed by No. 24 Drake on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. PT. Both matches will be held at the Baseline Tennis Center.
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA GOPHER’S: Minnesota, led by head coach Geoff Young, are 8-4 on the season with a perfect 5-0 record at home. The Gophers snapped a three-match losing streak in their last outing defeating The Citadel 7-0 after dropping a match to No. 19 North Carolina. Minnesota’s Leandro Toledo is ranked 30th in the country in singles, most recently defeating the 10th ranked player in the nation Brayden Schnur of North Carolina. Minnesota will return home to the Baseline Tennis Center for the first time in a month for this weekend’s matches.
ABOUT THE DRAKE UNIVERSITY BULLDOGS: Drake, led by head coach Davidson Kozlowski, is 13-3 on the season. The Bulldogs are 7-1 against ranked opponents only dropping one match to No. 5 Baylor. In their last outing, the Bulldogs shutout both No. 75 Louisiana 4-0 and Illinois State 7-0. With two players in their lineup ranked in the top 55 in singles, No. 34 Ben Lott and No. 55 Alen Salibasic, Drake looks to make another run at an NCAA tournament appearance.
LAST TIME OUT: Following a tough 3-4 loss to No. 36 Indiana, the Huskies took down St. Mary’s 6-1 for their eighth home win of the season. Splitting the first two doubles matches, Washington came out with the point followed by a dominant singles outing, only dropping one match. Winning his 14th consecutive match of the season, freshman Jake Douglas defeated his opponent 6-2, 6-3 helping him to become the ninth Husky in program history to win Pac-12 Player of the Week.
HUSKIES IN THE RANKINGS: Washington fell six spots in the rankings after they split their last two matches, falling short to No. 36 Indiana 4-3.
