SEATTLE -- The Dawgs are dancing once again. Washington earned their first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2007, being selected as a 6-seed in the Oklahoma City Region. The Huskies will face 11th-seeded Miami (Fla.) in the first round matchup at 9 a.m., PT on Friday in Iowa City, Iowa.
Washington will travel to Iowa City due to Iowa earning the third-seed and hosting the first and second rounds. The Hawkeyes will face 14th-seeded American on Friday following the Dawgs matchup with Miami. The winners of Friday's game will advance to Sunday's second round game. The team to advance out of Iowa City will then travel to the Oklahoma City Regional on March 27 and 29.
The Huskies earned their first NCAA Tournament bid in eight years and 17th overall. It is the first selection for the Dawgs under head coach Mike Neighbors who is in his second season at the helm of the Washington program and boasts a career record of 43-23.
The Dawgs have faced Miami only one time in history, back in 1989. The Dawgs won that matchup 85-68, but have not seen the Hurricanes since. Washington has played in the NCAA Tournament in Iowa City before, advancing to the 1990 Regional Final, before falling to Auburn with a trip to the Final Four on the line.
Friday's game will be 11 a.m. in Iowa City and 9 a.m. on the West Coast. It will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and on radio in the Seattle area on 1150 KKNW AM.
