Who is Dubs?
Dubs is the 14th official live mascot of the University of Washington. He is an Alaskan Malamute from Snohomish, Washington. Born on January 4, 2018, he was adopted into a family of UW Alumni and now resides in Sammamish, Washington. He has two human siblings and two furry siblings.
The University of Washington Intercollegiate Athletics Department is looking for current UW students to apply who are experienced in working with live animals, and have experience working with people of all ages at large and small-scale events.
Skill Requirements
- Must be highly motivated, creative, self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Must be a positive leader and ambassador of the University of Washington
- Must have a background and/or interest in dog behavior
- Must be able to physically handle a large dog (including sprinting 100 yards)
- Must be willing to learn and follow directions regarding the care/training of Dubs
- Must be organized and timely in responding to emails and schedule requests
- Accompany the mascot to Husky Athletic events, as well as other events both on and off campus
- Observe crowd and the environment for any safety issues and respond appropriately as needed
- Responsible for managing Dubs’ schedule at events
- Observe Dubs’ body language for signs of stress and responds appropriately (i.e. enforce breaks)
- Interact with fans in a friendly and knowledgeable manner
- Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Public speaking
- All candidates will be expected to work 1-2 events per week for a 12-month period (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026).
- Attend all home football games in 2025
- A minimum of 5 training hours will be provided, training time is in addition to scheduled events
- Ability to balance a demanding schedule that includes working days, nights, weekends (including holidays), multi-day travel and class schedules
- Starting scholarship of $500 per an Academic Year
- Season Pass for entrance to all Husky Home Games (when not working)
- Affiliation with a Power 5 Athletics Department
- Fully funded out-of-state travel to appearances and games (if applicable)
- Adidas attire (polos, t-shirts, shoes etc.)
- Additional honorarium based on appearances
