Williams-Goss Invited To USA Basketball U19 Training Camp

COLORADO Springs, Colo. - Incoming Washington basketball freshman Nigel Williams-Goss was one of 24 players to accept an invitation to attend training camp for the 2013 USA Men's Basketball U19 National Team.
Williams-Goss, who played in both the 2013 McDonald's All-American game and Jordan Brand Classic, will make an attempt to represent USA Basketball for the first time.
Williams-Goss joins the Huskies having led Findlay Prep of Henderson, Nev. to a 35-1 record in his senior season (124-8 record for all four years), averaging more than 18 points and seven assists.
The training camp will be held June 14-19 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center (USOTC) in Colorado Springs, Colo. Along with Jim Boeheim, Huskies Coach Lorenzo Romar is part of a five-person voting committee to decide the 12 players to be selected to play on the 2013 U19 National Team. Team finalists will be announced following the June 15 morning session.
The team will train twice a day on June 17 and 18, and will practice once on June 19. The team will then train twice a day at the Washington Wizards' practice facility in Washington, D.C., June 20-22, then depart for the Prague, Czech Republic, and the June 27-July 7 FIBA U19 World Championship.
The team will be coached by Billy Donovan (Florida) as head coach, with Tony Bennett (Virginia) and Shaka Smart (Virginia Commonwealth) as assistant coaches.
The FIBA World Championship features 15 other countries. In the past six years six different countries have claimed gold in the FIBA U19 World Championships. A draw held on Jan 15 placed U.S in group Group D with China, Ivory Coast, and Russia.
The top three finishing teams from each first-round group advance to the second round that will be played July 1-3. The quarterfinals will be held on July 5, the semifinals are scheduled for July 6, and the finals will be played on July 7. Game times will be announced by FIBA at a later date.
