THIS WEEK: The Husky baseball team breaks up a string of back-to-back home weekend with a trip across the state of Washington to take on Gonzaga in Spokane. Last weekend, the Huskies took two out of three from then-No. 5 Oregon State while the Zags ran their winning streak to 11 straight before dropping a game Sunday at Pepperdine. This week, Gonzaga is ranked No. 21 by Baseball America and sit atop the West Coast Conference standings, two and a half games ahead of the rest of the league.
Freshman right-hander Troy Rallings is scheduled to get the start Tuesday evening (6:00 p.m.) vs. the Bulldogs while Wednesday's starter has not yet been determined. Please note that Wednesday's game has been moved to a 3:00 p.m. start.
Fans can follow live stats and enjoy both live audio and/or live video of the game by following the links on this page, courtesy of Gonzaga.
HISTORY WITH THE BULLDOGS: As former members of the Pac-10 Northern Division from 1982 through 1995, and as one of just four Division I baseball programs in the state, the Huskies and Bulldogs share a long history. The Huskies lead the all-time series vs. Gonzaga, 73-58. Last year, however, the Zags won both of the teams' two meetings April 9 and 10 in Seattle, winning 6-4 and 8-5. The teams didn't play in 2011 as a two-game series in Spokane was rained out. In 2010, Washington beat the Zags three times, once at a season-opening tournament in Tucson and twice in Spokane in early April
NEXT UP: This weekend, the Huskies return to Seattle for a three-game series vs. California. That's followed by a road trip to face defending NCAA champion Arizona in Tucson May 3-5.
HUSKY BALLPARK CONSTRUCTION: Immediately following the conclusion of the 2013 UW baseball season, construction is scheduled to begin on the new grandstand at Husky Ballpark, which will be completed in time for the 2014 season. The new stadium will include seating for 2,200, a new team performance center, new scoreboard and field turn, new press box and a full compliment of public restrooms and concessions. For more on the new facility, check out huskyballpark.com.
HOME GAMES ON VIDEO: Washington fans can watch live video broadcast of all Husky HOME games this season (other than those games that will air on Pac-12 Networks television). There is no cost for this service and you can find the links via the UW baseball schedule page, or on future game and series previews like this one.
GAME PREVIEWS: GoHuskies.com has done away with the old, traditional "weekly notes" for many sports this academic year, so for the coming baseball season, this will be the manner in which each week's games will be previewed. The hope is that, with all of the links provided (particularly to the team's roster and bios, which will be regularly updated throughout the season, including updated career statistics), that fans will have much more information at their fingertips via this page than they ever had via old-style notes. If you have any thoughts on other links or information that might be included, please click on the "feedback" link at the very bottom of this page and let us know.
