MLB.com has this interesting story on former Husky All-America closer Brett Merrick, who has spent he last couple of seasons as a batting practice pitcher for the Mariners.
One of the all-time Husky greats, Merrick was a key cog in the UW's 1994 team, which came within one game of the College World Series before losing to a Georgia Tech team that included Jason Varitek, Nomar Garciaparra and Jay Payton. Merrick saved a school-record 20 games in 1994 before playing in the Indians' organization.
