Crossfire Hosts Timbers U-23s in Regular-Season Finale Wednesday
The Washington Crossfire will host the Timbers U-23s at Redmond High School on Wednesday in their Premier Development League regular-season finale; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT. Wednesday's match will determine the two teams' final positioning in the Northwest Division heading into the preseason.
The Timbers U-23s (9-4-2, 29 pts) currently sit in third place in the Northwest Division while the Crossfire (8-6-1, 25 pts) are in fourth. Both teams have clinched a playoff spot, but the match will finalize the NW Division playoff bracket for this weekend. With a Portland win, they could move into second place as a result of PDL tiebreakers and would face current-second place Kitsap Pumas in the divisional playoff this Saturday. The team that finishes in second place would go on to play host to the divisional playoff match. Crossfire will play the first-place Sounders U-23 on Saturday in a divisional playoff match. The winners of these games will head to the Western Conference Final Four. Current Huskies playing for Crossfire are Ben Fisk, Alex Klein, Patric Pray, Nathan Sackeyfio, and Andy Thoma. Goalkeeper Spencer Richey is on the Timbers U-23s. The Timbers U-23s and Crossfire face each other for the second time in three games Wednesday in the final matchup in the three-game, regular-season series between the two teams. The series is tied, with Crossfire beating Portland in their first matchup 2-1 and Portland coming out with a 1-0 victory on July 6.
