Jones Scores As Sounders U23 Wins Division Championship
The Sounders U-23 earned another three points on Sunday in a 1-0 victory against Fraser Valley Mariners FC that saw them win the PDL Northwest Division's regular season Championship.
Sophomore transfer Darwin Jones scored the lone goal 25 seconds into the 2nd half and the Sounders were able to hold onto the win; Jones also had three of the team's 20 shots. Red-shirt junior Michael Uyehara played the full 90 and helped with the shutout in the back line and also took one shot in the match. The Sounders U-23 have one remaining match on July 11 against North Sound SeaWolves FC, but have already clinched the top spot with 33 points from 15 games. On July 14th, the Sounders will host a playoff match against the 4th seed Washington Crossfire; the second-place Kitsap Pumas will host the third-place Portland Timbers U-23. The winners of these games will head to the Western Conference Final Four. In addition to the playoffs, the win ensures that the Sounders U-23 will represent the NW Division in the 2013 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
