Fisk Scores Game-Winner As Crossfire Moves Atop Standings
REDMOND, WA. - The Washington Crossfire jumped to first place in the Premier Development League (PDL) Northwest Division Standings after defeating the Vancouver Whitecaps FC U-23 Wednesday night at Redmond High School. Crossfire improved to 8-3-1 after the 2-1 win while Vancouver is now 5-4-4.
Upcoming UW senior Ben Fisk (right; photo: Dale Garvey) scored the game-winner for Crossfire in the 54th minute after he took the shot from the edge of the Vancouver box. Fisk also assisted the first goal by Zach Hammond in the fourth minute. Former Husky Nick James and senior Nathan Sackeyfio played a full 90 minutes for Crossfire; Sackeyfio took two shots. Crossfire now has 25 points after the victory, two points ahead of second place Kitsap (23). The two teams will meet on Friday in Bremerton, where they will compete for The Ruffneck Cup. The Cup, in its inaugural year, is awarded to one of the four Puget Sound clubs (Kitsap Pumas, Washington Crossfire, Sounders U23, North Sound SeaWolves FC) that finishes with the most points in seven matches played against each other. Kitsap can become the "2012 Ruffneck Champions" if it beats Crossfire, since it is 4-0-0 in Cup play.
