Hulett Brooks, 27, enters her fourth season on the Husky coaching staff. She began her collegiate coaching career in 1996, when she was hired as a part of first-year coach June Daugherty's new staff. Brooks came to the UW after two years of high school coaching experience and is responsible for monitoring the Husky academic efforts.
Brooks is a former standout at Franklin High School in Seattle. A 1989 graduate, Brooks was first-team All-State and Metro League Most Valuable Player her senior year. She was also named to the Converse All-America team for the state of Washington.
She continued her playing career at San Jose State from 1989 through 1994. At SJSU, she was first-team All-Big West as a senior, second-team All-Big West as a junior and a Big West All-Freshmen Team member. Her career marks of 12.6 points per game and 5.9 rebounds per game rank third and fourth, respectively, on SJSU's career leaders list. In 1994 she was honored as a scholar-athlete and a member of the California all-state team. She captained her SJSU teams for three seasons.
Following her playing career she served as head coach of the girls' junior varsity team at Homestead High School in Cupertino, Calif., and led her team to an undefeated season. After one season at Homestead, Brooks returned to SJSU to work on her master's degree in education counseling. While she was attending graduate school, she served as an assistant varsity coach at Menlo High School in Palo Alto, Calif.
Brooks earned her bachelor of arts degree in speech communications at San Jose State in 1994 and recently completed her master's degree.
