With Rashaan Shehee, the Pac-10's leading rusher, and Brock Huard, the nation's leader in passing efficiency, on the sidelines with injuries, the Huskies were not able to overcome several offensive miscues, falling to the Ducks 31-28.
Oregon took full advantage of a fumble, blocked punt and seven UW penalties to jump out to a 24-6 halftime lead. The Ducks were led in the first half by Saladin McCullough's 97 rushing yards and Akili Smith's passing. Smith completed 11 of 15 tosses for 108 yards and repeatedly scrambled away from Husky defenders.
Washington scored on its first two possessions in the third quarter, including a fumble recovery for a touchdown by center Olin Kreutz, to close the gap to 24-21. The Huskies took the lead with eight minutes to play when freshman quarterback Marques Tuiasosopo tossed a 41-yard TD pass to freshman Ja'Warren Hooker. It was the speedster's third touchdown of the season, on only his fifth touch of the ball. Oregon took the ensuing kickoff and drove 73 yards in 10 plays for the winning score on a 29-yard pass from Smith to Pat Johnson with 2:33 to play.
Washington receiver Jerome Pathon was superb, catching seven passes for 164 yards on the day to become UW's single-season leader for reception yards, amassing 1,092 yards through the first nine games of the season. Tuiasosopo became the first true freshman to start at quarterback for the Huskies. He completed 15 of 30 passes for 261 yards and scored on a 42-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter.
