The GymDawgs are back in action, as we begin another year of hard work and dedication. This year we are starting off awesome. Everyone came back from the summer rested and ready to start working our butts off. We begin this year with five newcomers. Our young pups as Coach Ludwig (strength coach) would call them are: Kristen, Haley, Sam, Karen, and Danielle. What a great group of women we have added to this already amazing team. They were ready to rock with us from day one, and have yet to disappoint us. We are ready to continue our success from last year, as this team prepares for the road back to Nationals!!!
This year during our first week of practices we did something a little different. In the past we have gone on a team retreat to Chelan, for a little team bonding. This year we decided to stick around Seattle to see what it has to offer. Our first big outing was one I will not soon forget. The team took a day trip on a nice big duck. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the ducks, we went on a tour of the Seattle area on a land and water trip called Ride The Ducks. Now since I am from Seattle, I felt a little silly being on a tour of my own city, but I have to say I did learn some very interesting things about this amazing city, such as the Top-Three places to dumpster dive. Yummy! We also had a team BBQ at our Head Coaches’ house, Joanne Bowers; and on Friday of the first week we all got glamorous for our team photos. What a beautiful group of ladies!!
During the team BBQ we discussed team goals for the season. We set some pretty high standards for ourselves and plan to continue to push for bigger and better things throughout the entire season. One of our current goals for the team during this first quarter is to achieve a 3.3 team GPA, and hope to remain at the top of the athletic department for grades. Go study, Dawgs!
On a different note, we had a big weekend since we brought in four recruits from all over the place. We set up a team tailgate party before the football game and did our best to root our Dawgs on to victory! All four of the girls that were here have verbally committed to the UW, so we wanted to give them a taste of a true Husky experience. We had a great time with these girls and are looking forward to getting to know them all better next year when they join our team!!
Being a senior this year has been awesome thus far. I am not looking forward to the end of the season when I will have to say goodbye to the first love of my life, but until then I am doing my best to take it one day at a time. It is an honor to be a Husky, and an even bigger honor to be a GymDawg. I am surrounded by such a wonderful team and coaching staff, and each day they remind me how great it is to be a DAWG. I just want to thank each and every person who has made this experience one I will never forget. And to our fans, thank you for your loyal support, you are awesome! As this journal entry comes to a close, I have one last thing to say, GO GYMDAWGS...WOOF!!
