We are now four meets into the season and it is very exciting to watch the team grow and mature as the season progresses. The team is working hard to improve our personal best and be the best we, as a team, can be. I can see that we are finally starting to believe in ourselves and that is showing in our performance. Confidence is contagious and we are catching it!
With every meet, we keep improving. We just had our second home meet of the season against Stanford University. I cannot explain how amazing it is to compete in front of a home crowd. The support from family and fans is truly great. While we did not beat our score from the weekend before at University of Utah, there were many exciting highlights of the night.
Different people shone in different areas. Katie Boyko landed her full twisting yurchenko for the first time this season. Celia Short hit a gorgeous routine on bars to earn a new career-high. Another exciting moment came from Tori Quandt on floor, when she landed her 2.5 twist for first time in a competition. She just added this skill to her routine a few days prior to the competition.
It is fun to see everyone stepping up, working hard on getting into lineup and adding more difficulty to their routines. I continue to be impressed with the desire and effort of every team member to improve and perfect their routines. We push and encourage each other, which is exactly what we need to continue to improve.
This weekend is an off weekend for us. I see this as an opportunity to get ahead. Not only will it give us a chance to rest some small injuries, but we will also have the opportunity to work on our difficulty and add new skills to our routines, as well as perfect what we already have and work on the small details.
Many of us are working on skills to add to our routines. Natalie Gilan is working on a full-twisting double layout dismount off bars, which she hopes to add to her routine at the next home meet. Bonita Lee is also working a new dismount off the beam to perfect her routine.
After the weekend off we will be back in action Friday, Feb. 9, roaring to go. A few new tricks are likely to be seen and the team should be well-rested and ready to perform.
