2012 (Cross Country): Redshirted the season to preserve a year of eligibility, competing once unattached, as she was 45th at the Sundodger Invite at Lincoln Park.
High School and Personal: Full name is Cassandra Jeanne Smith ... born in Mission Viejo, California ... parents are Jackie and Kent Smith ... one of seven children, with two older brothers, Andrew and Matt, two younger brothers Sam and Spencer, and two older sisters, Jessica and Makenna ... also has a brother-in-law, Steve, and nephew, Moses ... sister Makenna runs cross country and track for BYU ... father played collegiate volleyball for BYU ... also competed frequently in the triple jump with a personal-best of 39-feet, 5-inches ... sixth as a senior in the CIF-SS Division I finals, running 4:58.81 for 1,600-meters ... set 1,600m PR of 4:57.99 in 2012 at Distance Meet of Champions ... won the Distance Meet of Champions in 2011 with a time of 5:03.38 ... ran just one season of cross country, taking 14th in the CIF-SS Division-I finals in 2011 ... finished 18th in the 2011 Mt. SAC XC Invite ... lettered in volleyball her sophomore through senior seasons.
