Travis Jewett enters his third season as an assistant baseball coach at the UW. Jewett is primarily responsible for the infielders. He also coaches third base during games and is heavily involved in recruiting.
Last season, Jewett was largely responsible for helping the Huskies break the school record for fielding percentage. The Dawgs’ .978 mark was best in UW history, best in the Pac-10 and third in the NCAA
In 2002, in his first season as infield coach, Jewett had a lot to do with the Huskies’ finishing the year with a sparking .974 fielding percentage in Pac-10 play, the second-best mark in the league.
Prior to coming to Washington, Jewett served as an assistant under head coach Steve Hertz at Gonzaga. In his last two seasons, the Bulldogs won their division in the West Coast Conference. In 2001, Gonzaga posted a .966 fielding percentage, best in school history, thanks largely to Jewett’s efforts. The 1999 team fielded .962, second best in Gonzaga history at the time.
Prior to joining the Gonzaga coaching staff, Jewett was head coach at Edmonds (Wash.) Community College. In 1998, his only season with the Tritons, Jewett led Edmonds to the NWAACC championship and was named both the NWAACC Coach of the Year and the National Junior College Coach of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association. That Edmonds team had seven players selected in the Major League Baseball draft.
Jewett began his coaching career as the head coach at Tacoma Community College for the 1996 season, where his assistant was current UW volunteer assistant Gregg Swenson.
A 1993 graduate of Washington State University, Jewett earned a degree in social science. He played two seasons of baseball at Lower Columbia College in Longview, Wash., before transferring to WSU.
Jewett and his wife Tracy have two sons, Tanner and Thomas. The family resides in Kirkland.
