Williams Heads To Europe For Palmer Cup

NEWCASTLE, Northern Ireland -- Chris Williams joins seven other American collegiate golfers in Northern Ireland this week to take on the Europeans at the 2012 Palmer Cup. This year's annual Ryder Cup-style competition will take place at The Royal Down Golf Club, June 28-30.
The United States have won the last two Palmer Cup matches, including a 13-11 victory for the United States at The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn. in 2011.
For Williams, this is his second time as a member of Team USA at the Palmer Cup. In 2011, Williams finished the tournament with two wins, no losses and halved two matches.
The PING All-American and current No. 2 rated amateur also represented the U.S. in the 2011 Walker Cup. He was 2-1 in Walker Cup action, giving him four wins, one loss and two halved matches overall in international action.
Joining Williams on the USA team are Jack Nicklaus Award recipient Justin Thomas of Alabama, Auburn's Blayne Barber, Patrick Rodgers of Stanford, Derek Ernst of UNLV, Clemson's Corbin Mills, James White of Georgia Tech and Stanford's Andrew Yun.
Representing the European team are UCLA's Pontus Widegren, Robert Karlsson of Liberty, Sebastian Cappelen of Arkansas, Julien Brun of TCU, Illinois' Thomas Pieters, the University of Utrecht's Daan Huizing, plus David Booth and Graeme Robertson from the University of Stirling in Scotland.
Four-ball matches begin Thursday morning with foursome matches that afternoon and singles matches both Friday and Saturday.
The USA holds a 7-6-1 advantage all-time.
