NESHANIC STATION, N.J. -- Jennifer Yang double-bogeyed the 18th hole and her opponent Ashlan Ramsey scored par to end Yang's match play run at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in the round of 16 on Thursday.
Yang, who just completed her freshman season at Washington, was attempting to make her second great comeback of the day at Neshanic Valley Golf Course in New Jersey. She trailed Ramsey, a 16-year old from Georgia, by one hole through 15 before a birdie on No. 16 squared the match. Both golfers parred No. 17 before Ramsey put away the match on No. 18.
Temperature reached the mid-90's at the course, but Yang and the other competitors each played 36 holes on Thursday.
Yang pulled off a miraculous comeback in the morning to advance out of the round of 32. Yang trailed Gonzaga's T.J. Kliebphipat by three with just four holes remaining but won the final four holes take the 1 up win.
She scored par on 15 to Kliebphipat's bogey and then birdied No. 16 to close the margin by one. Yang would bogey both 17 and 18, but Kliebphipat would score worse on both to lose the match. The lead at the end was the only one Yang had the entire match.
Brittany Tallman dropped a 4 and 3 decision to Kelsey Morrison in the round of 16 at the 103rd Women's Oregon Amateur Championship on Thursday. Tallman, who will be a senior at UW in the fall, was 2 up after three holes at Tualatin Country Club but lost the next three holes to give up the lead. She would square the match on No. 7, but immediately dropped the 8th hole and never came any closer in the match.
