Huskies Hold Off No. 1 Texas To Win NCAA Southwest Regional
INDIANAPOLIS - The Husky men's golf team learned on Monday that they will be a No. 8 seed for the 2012 NCAA Men's Golf Championship to be hosted May 28-June 3 at The Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
A total of 30 teams and six individuals will compete in the 54-hole stroke play portion of the tournament next Tuesday through Thursday. The top eight teams will advance to match play starting on Friday, June 1 with a national champion being crowned on Sunday, June 3.
Washington was one of five teams to advance out of the Southwest Region hosted in Norman, Okla. The third-seeded Huskies won the regional by four shots over top-seeded Texas and UW junior Chris Williams was medalist.
The Longhorns earned the No. 1 seed for the championship. The rest of the top-10 is second-seed Alabama, followed by California, Auburn, UCLA, USC, Oregon, Washington, Stanford and San Diego State.
The Huskies will be paired with Oregon and Stanford for the first two rounds.
The Pac-12 Conference leads the way with six teams in the field -- all among the top-10 ranked squads. The SEC and Big 12 each have four teams in the field.
