GREENWICH, Conn. - Husky sophomore Chris Williams and playing partner Daniel Miernick won their morning Four Ball match and were trailing in their Foursome match before thunderstorms halted play at the Palmer Cup on Thursday.
Williams and Miernicki, a junior from Oregon, beat the European duo of Robert Karlsson and Nick MacAndrew 4 and 3 in the morning but were trailing Jeff Karlsson and Robert Karlsson by one hole when play was suspended after eight holes. Action will pick up on Friday at 7:30 a.m. ET from The Stanwich Club in Greenwich, Conn.
In Four Ball play, Williams birdied the second hole to take the lead but a par on No. 3 and a Karlsson birdie on No. 4 put Europe in the lead. The Americans would respond with birdies by Miernicki and Williams on the fifth and sixth holes, respectively, to pull back ahead. Back-to-back birdies by Miernicki on the eighth and ninth extended the U.S. lead to 3-up. Miernicki would card another birdie on No. 13 to push the lead to 4-up before closing out the match on No. 15.
Team USA won the morning battles and lead 3-1. The Europeans are turning the tables in the afternoon and hold a 3-1 advantage.
