Williams Set For Palmer Cup

GREENWICH, Conn. - Husky sophomore Chris Williams will cap an eventful week of golf by representing the United States at the 2011 Palmer Cup, starting Thursday, June 9 and running through Saturday, June 11. Williams started the week by qualifying for the 2011 U.S. Open by winning a sectional at Gold Mountain Golf Course on Monday.
First round four-ball pairings for the Palmer Cup at The Stanwich Club were announced at Wednesday's opening ceremony. The first match of the Ryder Cup-style competition between collegiate golfers will tee off at 7:30 a.m. ET.
Williams will be paired with Daniel Miernicki, who plays for rival Oregon. They will take on Robert Karlsson and Nick MacAndrew of Europe in the third match of the day starting at 7:58 a.m. ET.
The opening match will feature Bank Vongvanij and Andrew Yun from the United States against Europe's Sebastian Cappelen and Ignacio Elvira. Game two will pit America's Patrick Cantlay and Alex Carpenter versus Nils Floren and Jeff Karlsson. The final match will be contested between Team USA's Blayne Barber and Russell Henley and Europe's Henrik Norlander and Pontus Widegren.
Afternoon foursomes matches will begin at 2:00 p.m. ET with pairings to be determined.
The United States leads the Palmer Cup series 7-6-1.
