UW Baseball Recruits Earn Gatorade Honors In Two States

SEATTLE - Husky baseball recruits have earned the prestigious Gatorade state player of the year in two different states this year as Robert Stephenson won the award in California and Trevor Mitsui won in Washington.
Stephenson, a pitcher and outfielder at Alhambra High School in Martinez, Calif., went 8-2 with a 1.19 earned run average in 2011, helping to lead his team to the CIF Division III North Coast Section quarterfinals. He struck out 142 batters in 76.1 innings. In the classroom, Stephenson has a 4.12 grade point average.
Mitsui, an infielder from Shorewood High in Shoreline, batted .712 with 13 homers, 26 RBI and an .845 on-base average, leading the Thunderbirds to the 3A state title game. He struck out just once in 97 plate appearances as a senior. He boasts a 3.62 GPA and is a member of the National Honor Society.
Both Stephenson and Mitsui signed National Letters of Intent with the UW last November.
