Women's Soccer Honors Team At Banquet

SEATTLE - The women's soccer team met in the Don James Center Friday night for their annual awards banquet. Along with speeches given by coaches, seniors and other players, team awards were announced as well. All the members of the team were able to voice their opinions, and the results are in.
After an incredible season between the posts, junior goalkeeper, Jorde LaFontaine-Kussmann (Lakewood, Wash.) was named the Player of the Year and Most Valuable Player on the defensive side. She racked up 94 saves and had a goals average of .96 per game.
Junior forward from Des Moines, Wash., Sarah Martinez was named Offensive Most Valuable Player, scoring five goals this season, along with three assists. Martinez was also voted Most Inspirational Player by her teammates.
Molly Boyd, the freshman defender (Seattle, Wash.), was voted Most Improved Player, after starting 12 games for the Huskies and strengthening the tough Husky defense.
The Rookie of the Year award was given to Lindsey Bos, a freshman from Archbishop Murphy High school in Everett, Wash. Bos was one of two freshmen to play in all 24 games, and one of four players to start all 24 matches.
Hannah Greig, a senior defender from Woodinville, Wash., who also started all 24 games, was voted as the teams Unsung Hero.
Freshman Allie Beahan's (Sammamish, Wash.) golden goal that propelled the Huskies into the Elite 8 vs. UC Irvine in the Sweet 16 was voted Goal of the Year.
Husky Strength Coach, Rose Baker chose the Strength and Conditioning awards. Winning the Raising the Bar award was junior Kate Deines (Issaquah, Wash.). The Iron Dawg award was given to junior Alex Webber (Poway, Calif.). Sophomore midfielder, Faustine Dufka (San Francisco, Calif.) was awarded the In the Trenches award.
The L.I.F.E. Awards are chosen the by Husky coaching staff, and are awards given to players for intangible assets, that aren't always recognized by statistics. The Loyalty award, rewarded to those to show a devotion and adherence to commitments and obligations was given to juniors Sarah Martinez (Des Moines, Wash.) and Kari Davidson (Portland, Ore.).
The Industry award, which is given to players that are energetic, show devoted activity to any work or task, and show diligence was awarded to Webber and Kelsea Brajkovich (Thousand Oaks, Calif.). The Faith award, which awards players who can be trusted and the team is confident in was given to Deines and Dufka.
And finally, the Efficiency award, rewarding those who show competency in performance was given to senior Kellye Joswick (Placentia, Calif.) and Bos.
