Richards Scores Twice In Return

April 2, 2011
PORTLAND, Ore. - Head coach Jamie Clark has been pushing his new team in training the last month and finally had a chance to see them in real competition at Portland on Saturday. The Huskies tied the Portland Pilots 2-2.
Junior Brent Richards (Camas, Wash.) spent the last quarter studying abroad in Ecuador and has only trained with the team for about a week, but his return was huge as he scored both goals.
"It's a big positive that Brent is back," said Clark. "He started where he left off."
Freshman Spencer Richey (Seattle, Wash.) played in goal the entire game, playing "confident," as Clark said. "Portland's first goal was a deflection and the second goal was well taken. Spencer made good saves the entire game."
"A lot of new guys got their first chance to play. I thought it was great that we looked like a good attacking team which is the hard part, to try to score goals in soccer."
The Huskies were battling several injuries to their central defenders and used a make shift lineup in the back but Clark said "they competed well and it was a good starting spot for us."
"We have to get our speed back under us and if we can get some guys healthy it will make a difference. I think we will be able to play with more confidence next time because of the early jitters."
There has been a change to the schedule for next week's spring game. The Friday game at Seattle U has been moved to 6 p.m. at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila against the Redhawks.
*Please note that spring games do not count towards team or individual records.
