Williams Named Gohuskies.com Student-Athlete Of The Week

March 28, 2011
SEATTLE - Sophomore Chris Williams of the men's golf team was named the Gohuskies.com Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 21-27. This is the first such honor for the men's golf team this season.
The Moscow, Idaho native won his third career title this past week and first in 2011, equaling his best score of -9 at the Oregon Duck Invitational.
Williams birdied the final two holes on Tuesday to break a deadlock at the top of the leaderboard and win the tournament by two strokes over Oregon State's Alex Moore and Rice's Michael Whitehead.
He rolled in a 10-foot putt on No. 17 to take the one stroke lead and clinched the victory with another impressive birdie on 18. He used a seven iron from 170 yards out to knock his ball within six feet of the cup and calmly putted in from there to seal the deal.
For the 54-hole tournament at Eugene Country Club, Williams had 13 birdies and four bogeys. He equaled his UW career-best under-par score of -9 (207).
The Huskies finished third at the tournament behind No. 1 Oklahoma State and No. 28 Oregon.
Other nominees include: Joe Meggs (baseball), Laura Denman (men's crew), Jeevan Nedunchezhivan (men's tennis), James Alaka (men's track and field), Dominique Lauderdale (women's track and field), Katherine Mahoney (women's crew), Anya Alvarez (women's golf), Niki Williams (softball) and Denise Dy (women's tennis).
