Woodward And UW Coaches Comment On Emmert's Appointment

April 27, 2010
University of Washington director of athletics Scott Woodward had the following comment regarding UW President Mark A. Emmert's apppointment today as the new President of the NCAA:
"I am extremely proud and happy for my good friend and boss Mark Emmert," said Woodward. "The NCAA could not have selected a more qualified and competent leader for the organization."
Men's Basketball Coach Lorenzo Romar:
"President Emmert is one of the most impressive persons I've ever met. Obviously, you hate to see someone go that is that talented and so supportive. But at the same time, it is an unbelievable oppotunity for him. The NCAA will be better as a result of his leadership."
Football Coach Steve Sarkisian:
"I think it is obviously a great opportunity for him. I think the NCAA is getting a good man and the right guy that is going to lead the NCAA in a way we all would hope it would get led. We will obviously miss him here. But, I think he has put the university in a great place from and academic standpoint and an athletic standpoint. Whoever comes in to take his place is going to be in great standing. He has done a fantastic job. I appreciate spending a year-and-a-half with him and I know we will continue our relationship."
Volleyball Coach Jim McLaughlin
"I am disappointed to see him leave because he was great at what he did and he did so much for UW. He knows a lot about a wide range of subjects. For sure he understands what athletics is all about. So I think the NCAA is lucky to have him in charge and great things will continue to happen."
