Friberg Shoots 4-Under Par At U.S. Open

June 26, 2008
Edina, Minn. -- Former Husky standout Louise Friberg shot a 4-under par 69 in the first round of the U.S. Open at Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minnesota on Thursday. Currently, she is tied for fourth, two shots off the pace set by Ji Young Oh and Pat Hurst.
Friberg, a rookie on the LPGA Tour, started her round on the 10th hole. She carded two birdies on her front nine and three more on her last nine. Friberg was poised to enter the clubhouse with a bogey-free round, but shot a five on the par-four ninth hole to close out her day on the par-73 course.
Friberg was tied for second entering her last hole when she just missed a par on No. 9 after her putt skimmed the left side of the cup on the tricky, sloped green. The Swede was tied with Colombian amateur Maria Jose Uribe.
Friberg will tee off at 1:58 pm (CDT) on hole number one on Friday. To follow all the action live, visit the official LPGA U.S. Open site.
