May 15, 2007
SEATTLE - The Washington baseball team plays its final non-conference game of the regular season tonight as Gonzaga visits Husky Ballpark for the second of two meetings between the northwest rivals. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. and the game will air live on KKNW AM-1150.
The Huskies (26-23 overall, 9-9 in the Pac-10) are coming off of two losses in three games at Stanford last weekend. The Dawgs currently hold sole possession of fourth place in the Pac-10 standings, five games back of first-place Arizona State (14-4) and one game in front of three teams tied for fifth place (Oregon State, USC, California).
Tonight's game is the final contest of the regular season for the Bulldogs (32-22 overall, 15-6 in the West Coast Conference). The Zags will travel to San Diego this weekend for the best-of-three WCC championship series against the Toreros. The winner of that series will earn a spot in the NCAA tournament.
The Huskies are scheduled to send sophomore right-hander Bryce Mooney (Lake Oswego, Ore.) to the mound. He'll face off with Zags right-hander Matt Fields, a sophomore from Lake Stevens High.
After the Gonzaga game, the Huskies' next action will come this weekend at Arizona. Friday night's game in Tucson gets underway at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., and the series wraps up Sunday in a 12 noon game. The following weekend (May 25-27), the UW wraps up the regular season with a three-game series vs.California at Husky Ballpark.
